Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo

Locally common

Usually seen in flocks of 10-20. Flight is slow, buoyant, with full wingbeats. Feeds in small to large noisy flocks. Seeds of forests trees including sheoaks, eucalypts, banksias. Extracts wood-boring grubs. Loud, wailing 'whee-la' contact call. Harsh screeching.

Found in coastal eucalypt forests, banksia heathland, adjacent ranges and pine plantations.
