Usually solitary, often hopping sideways along a branch, probing for insects. Usually feeds lower in the canopy. Manna, lerp, honeydew and insects. Some nectar taken by puncturing the flower base.
Found in dry eucalypt forests and woodlands with complex understorey. Heathlands, mangroves, mallee, inland scrub. Alpine to lowland areas. Parks, gardens. Avoids open spaces.
