Active, fearless and noisy. Pairs or small family groups. Briskly hop-searches under cover over ground or among low branches. Insects, insect larvae, moths and the like. Soft continuous chattering. Harsh metallic chirring when alarmed.
Found in dense, shrubby undergrowth, usually moist areas along creeks, dense sand plain heaths, mallee scrub, parks and gardens.
