Resides in family groups. Well adapted to urban areas. Briskly hops through low thickets. Eats small insects, spiders, occasionally small fruits. Vigorous, musical trilling warble, repeated.

Varied habitats. Shrubby, open forests and woodlands, coastal heaths, vegetation along watercourses, parks and gardens.
