Six races, mostly differentiated by crown, colour of wing spot and width of the white wing bars. Flight is high, fast and direct from tree to tree. Forages quickly in upper canopy and outer folliage of mostly eucalypts. Leaf-gleaning, lerp, thrips, insects, bugs, flies.

Widespread, occupying diverse habitats: open eucalypt forests, woodlands, mallee, mulga, rainforests, mangroves, shrubby areas, River Red Gum-lined watercourses, parks and gardens.
