Strong, direct flight with stiff, straight wings and few wingbeats. Dips close to water. Follows wave contours. Only petrel to breed solely in Australia. Huge floating flocks feed on plankton, crustaceans, fish, squid. Returns to breeding area at night, leaves before dawn.

Found in oceanic and coastal waters.
