Male black with blue sheen and white underparts. Female and immature similar, with buff-orange throat. Tail sways and quivers when perched. Hawks for flying insects from the mid- to upper canopy. Sharp, metallic two-note whistle. Harsh grating call.
Found in tall, wet eucalypt forest gullies and nearby ranges. Seasonal migration through open woodlands. May visit parks and gardens.
