Feeds mostly on nectar. Large quantaties of insects, manna and honeydew. Aggressive when feeding. Hops along the ground taking insects or hawks for flying insects. Call noisy: harsh 'tchock'.

Found in eucalypt woodlands, heathlands, mallee, parks and gardens.
