Red-kneed Dotterel

Upright stance, bobs head. Feet trail in flight. Gregarious, usually in groups of 50 or more. Wades in shallows or probes mud along shoreline for aquatic insects. Sometimes swims. Loud trilling in flight.

Found along the edges of shallow freshwater or brackish swamps, wetlands, claypans, floodwaters with vegetation.
