Forms flocks in winter and disperses to lowlands during the summer. Omnivorous scavenger. Insects, especially stick insects, nestlings, snails, carrion, berries. Distinctive carolling 'cur-re-wong'. Drawn-out whistles.

Found in diverse habitats. Open forests, woodland scrub, alpine areas, farmland, urban areas.
