Nankeen Kestrel

Common

Fast, agile flight or hovers motionless, low to the ground, with rapid withbeats and its fan-like tail used as a rudder. Typically solitary or in pairs, sometimes congregating in large flocks in good seasons around an ample food supply. Named from its similarity to a buff-coloured cloth once imported from Nanking in China.

Found in open woodland, farmland, urban parks and gardens.
