Fearless and inquisitive. Aggressively chases other birds away from feeding area. Strong, undulating flight, audible wingbeats. Largest and darkest of the three look-alike honeyeaters (Lewin's, Graceful & Yellow-spotted). Feed in mid- to upper canopy for nectar, fruit. Spirals up trees, picking insects from bark crevices.
Found in wet eualypt forests, rainforests, heathlands and gardens.
