Active, restless and acrobatic flight. Constantly fans tail. Relatively tame. Usually singles or pairs, but form small groups in autumn and winter, sometimes in mixed flocks. Hawks for and gleans insects from the lower canopy.

Found in most habitats, including tall, open woodlands, parks and gardens.
