Usually seen in flocks of about 30 birds. Flight is swift, wheeling. Usually ground feeders, taking grass seeds, herbs and roots, new leaf growth, saltbush, blossoms, insects and larvae, spilt grain and cereal crops.

Found in woodlands with cypress pines, casuarinas and eucalypts.
