Solitary. Territorial. Weak, short flight. Secretive, moving quietly or dashing through undergrowth. Loud, long-ringing whipcrack call by male, often followed by an instant sharp 'tchew-tchew' reply from female.

Found in thickets, gullies in rainforests, heaths, wet sclerophyll forests.
