Noted for its mutual ritual 'dance' of graceful leaps and bows. Flight is steady, slow, graceful, soaring in thermals, neck extended, trailing legs. Feeds in shallows, mostly on sedge tubers, insects and molluscs.
Found in open wetlands, wet grasslands, vegetated lagoons.
