In pairs or small flocks. Aggressive towards other birds. Feeds mostly on insects, also nectar and fruit. Loud monotonous 'ki-owt' at daybreak and piping calls. Soft contact calls in flight.

Found in rainforest fringes, open woodlands, mangrove, eucalypt, paperbark, pandanus.
