Bar-tailed Godwit

Distinctive flight in large close flocks, rising, falling, banking together. Steady, even wingbeats. Flocks can number tens of thousands. Feeds in shallows, probing, sweeping for invertebrates, crustaceans. Often feeds at low tide on moonlit nights. Females venture furthest out.

Found in coastal sandy beaches, tidal mudflats, estuaries.
