Usually in pairs or family groups. Distinctive, rapid, undulating flight. Usually in outer foliage, taking native fruit, nuts, nectar and blossom. Sometimes ground feeding on fallen fruit and seed. Orchard pest where no native fruit is available.

Found in heavily timbered mountain forests and rainforests, parks and gardens. Migrates to coastal plains in winter. Returns to highlands to breed.
