Australasian Shoveler

Moderately common

Often seen well out from shore. Dabbler, surface feeder, sifting water or mud for aquatic animals, zooplankton. Usually silent. Male: soft, courting 'took-took' call. Soft chattering in flight.

Found in thickly vegetated fresh or saline deep lakes, ponds, farm dams, tidal flats, swamps.
