Also called 'Snake-Bird' as it swims with its body submerged, with only its snake-like head and long neck visible, writhing when disturbed. Usually solitary or in small groups. Often seen preening or holding their wings out to dry. 

Found in fresh or salt water in sheltered bays, harbours and waterways.
